Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Tallow?

Tallow is made by slowly melting down and purifying beef fat. We use suet, the firm, clean fat found around the kidneys and loins, because it has a naturally rich nutrient profile and creates a clean, gentle base for our products.

How do you guarantee quality?

Quality guides every step of what we make. We’re intentional about where our ingredients come from long before they ever reach your skin. Our tallow begins with Colorado-raised, grass-finished suet, and it is rendered slowly using a traditional, gentle method that preserves nutrients while naturally reducing odor — resulting in a clean, soft, deeply skin-friendly base.

We source herbs with the same care. Whenever possible, we choose locally grown or USA-grown botanicals from small farms. When those aren’t available, we work only with trusted suppliers who offer ethically wildcrafted or certified organic herbs.

For the few products that include essential oils, we use Plant Therapy oils and select organic options when available. Every ingredient we bring in is evaluated for purity, sustainability, and ethical sourcing — so you can feel confident about what you’re putting on your skin.

What is the shelf life of your products?

Because of the nature of tallow and the ingredients we use, our products have a naturally long shelf life. Tallow is rich in Vitamin E and other antioxidants, which act as natural preservatives and give it superb stability without any added chemicals. We recommend using your product within one year for best freshness — especially if it’s kept sealed and stored in a cool, dark place.

Our herb-infused oils and hydrosols are made using fresh, high-quality botanicals, and their shelf life depends on the type of product. Herb-infused oils are stable for about 6–12 months when stored in a cool, dark place and kept tightly sealed. Hydrosols are more delicate by nature — we recommend using them within 6 months and keeping them out of heat and direct sunlight to maintain freshness. Each product is made in small batches to ensure you’re getting the highest quality and longest life possible.

My product arrived melted or solid.

Tallow is a primarily saturated fat, so its texture naturally changes with temperature. During transit, your whipped tallow may melt or firm up depending on the weather. Once it settles back to room temperature, it should return to its soft, whipped consistency — and you can place it in the fridge to help it cool more quickly. If it doesn’t whip back up, that’s completely okay; it simply becomes more of a balm, which is just as nourishing and effective (a little will go a long way).

Some of our oil-based products may also solidify in cold temperatures. If your body oil or roller arrives cloudy or semi-solid, simply warm it between your hands or let it sit at room temperature until it fully melts again. This texture change is totally normal and does not affect the quality or performance of your product.
